A WPC ETA Certificate (Wireless Product Certification – Equipment Type Approval) is a mandatory approval issued by the Wireless Planning & Coordination (WPC) Wing under the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India. Any product that uses Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RFID, Zigbee, NFC, LoRa, or any other radio frequency technology must obtain this certificate before being imported, sold, or launched in the Indian market.

The ETA Certificate ensures that the product’s radio frequency (RF) usage is safe, follows Indian regulations, and does not interfere with licensed communication networks. For manufacturers, importers, and brand owners, securing an ETA is essential to legally operate in India’s wireless ecosystem.

📌 Step-by-Step Process to Apply for a WPC ETA Certificate

1. Identify the RF Module / Frequency Band

Check whether your product uses unlicensed frequency bands approved by WPC. If your device uses Wi-Fi/Bluetooth (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz), RFID, or similar technology, ETA is compulsory.

2. Get RF Test Report from an Accredited Lab

You must obtain an RF Test Report from an ILAC-accredited or NABL-accredited laboratory.
This report checks:

  • Operating frequency

  • Output power

  • Modulation

  • RF safety parameters

The test report must match exactly with the device you want to certify.

3. Create an Account on the Saral Sanchar Portal

WPC issues ETA certificates only through the Saral Sanchar Portal.
You have to register as:

  • Manufacturer

  • Importer

  • Authorized Indian Representative

4. Fill the ETA Application Form

Enter details such as:

  • Product model name

  • Frequency band

  • RF test report details

  • Manufacturer information

  • Product photos & technical specifications

5. Upload Required Documents

Commonly required documents:

  • RF Test Report

  • Product datasheet

  • ID proof & authorization letter

  • Importer/manufacturer details

6. Submit Government Fee & Application

After completing the form, pay the prescribed fees online and submit your application.

7. Technical Evaluation by WPC

WPC verifies:

  • RF report authenticity

  • Compliance with Indian unlicensed bands

  • Technical safety

  • Product specifications

If all details match, the application moves to approval.

8. Receive WPC ETA Certificate

Once approved, you will receive the Equipment Type Approval Certificate through the Saral Sanchar portal.
The certificate is valid for the product’s entire model life (no expiry).
